Good news! Dad came through today’s surgery with flying colors. He was “under the knife” for about two hours, and the doctors were very pleased with the results. The surgeon removed a tumor the size of a large walnut from his colon, and he believes he got all the cancer out. He sent tissue samples from adjacent areas and the lymph nodes for biopsy and evaluation, but we won’t know the results on those until Monday. Dad’s resting comfortably in ICU right now, but he was cheerful and able to engage in conversation with us about 1 1/2 hours after surgery.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and overwhelming support. Dad received dozens and dozens of messages literally from around the world - Canada, Australia, England, Kenya, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and throughout the USA. The messages were so uplifting to him…and to Mom and all the rest of us as well. I have printed them out and put them in a binder for him, so please feel free to relay any other messages you wish.

The Lord truly works in mysterious ways. Dad’s surgeon, Dr. Kadawaki, heard from the anesthesiologist that Dad had a long career with Billy Graham. He told us that his own father had come to the Lord through Billy Graham’s Tokyo Crusade, and that he had decided to go to seminary as a result. He traveled from Japan and attended Northwestern Theological Seminary, where he met the woman who became his wife. Thus, the surgeon said if it hadn’t been for Billy Graham, he wouldn’t have been born!

I’m sure Dad will enjoy sending you a message of thanks himself when he’s recuperated. In the meantime, my mother Joan, brother David, sister-in-law Alesha, niece Jacqueline and my wife Donna join me in thanking all of you for your love, prayers and support.
